Third Sunday of Advent
December 11, 2005 - Bulletin

Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.

—Mark 1:3

THEME OF OUR LITURGY - “Hope, Patience and Comfort”
Isaiah 61:1-2a,10-11 As a garden makes its growth spring up, so will God make justice spring up before all the nations.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good.

John 1:6-8,19-28 I am the voice of one crying out in the desert , make straight the way of the Lord.

AS A PARISH COMMUNITY
We welcome ABIGAIL YVETTE EDELHART into the Community of Faith through the Sacrament of Baptism.

We pray for all the sick in our parish, especially: Maureen Dan, Tom Cathey, Richard Jordan, Malen Ferrer, John Duran, Florence Favrow, John Hartlein, Margaret Caylao Lory Manzano, Angela Uccelli and Gladys Orozco (former parishioner).

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE

Our annual Christmas Giving Tree is up in the vestibule of the Church through December 16th. For your convenience, we would like you to purchase a Target Gift Card rather than individually wrapped gifts for the needy families of our parish community. There are “ornament” tags on the Giving Tree that indicate purchasing a $10.00 Gift card: pick up one, two or as many “ornaments” as you’d like! Please bring the gift cards to Rosemary Whittle in the Rectory. As always, we thank you for all of your generosity and support. We wish you and your families a very blessed Christmas Season.

SUNDAY CHURCH COLLECTION

Many thanks to those parishioners who contributed to the Church Collection last Sunday. Amount received: $5,076 and for the School $1,495. Cost of running the Parish for the week: $5,200.

SECOND COLLECTION

The Second Collection next Sunday is for the support of the Parish Improvement Fund. Please be generous!

PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND AND ITALY

Join Father Brian on a 15-day Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Italy, in June 2006. Visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee, Jericho and the Dead Sea, in the Holy Land; Assisi, Siena and Rome, in Italy. For more information, contact Jim Sullivan, Tour Leader, at (650) 321-4534.

Dear Friends,

If you notice all the beautiful flowers around the Church, you can thank Sister Terri as well as Bob and Pearl . It’s great to see some color here in South City especially after all the drab winter weather we have been having lately. Thanks Sister, Bob and Pearl on a job well done.

We are in need of a Handiman and more Eucharistic Ministers. If you can help, please contact Rosemary in the Rectory Office.

Due to popular demand, we will have a New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance in the Parish Hall. As I said in last week’s Bulletin, this will be a family affair. Further details in next week’s Bulletin.

Have a great Third Week of Advent!

Father Brian
