Dear Friends,

I will be taking off a few days before school starts and traveling down to L.A.  I am looking forward to reconnecting with my family and friends in the southland.

Father Padazinski went to Father George Meyers’ funeral this past week.  Father Meyers was the long time pastor at St. Bartholomew’s Church in San Mateo.  On the back of the funeral program was a portion of Father Meyers’ first sermon preached on July 7, 1946, some 60 years ago.  What Father Meyers said that day bears repeating:

                                       “I hope and pray

that I may serve you well

for as long as I may be here.

Before returning to the altar of God,

I ask you to say a prayer for me during this Mass

that I may always be a good priest

serving well my Master and His flock,

                                                            whomever they may be.”

Father Meyers was a good priest.  In fact, he was a great priest who served in this Archdiocese for over 60 years.  Please pray for Fathers Caverte, Padazinski, and myself, that we may always be good and holy priests

Have a great week!

                        Father Brian

Your Mater Dolorosa Community

It has been suggested that we start a line of communication between those parishioners who would like to be more informed.  The Telephone Tree works like this: We gather a list of people who would like to be contacted to receive information such as a serious illness, (when a parishioner needs prayers), or a death (with funeral information).  The Telephone Tree will originate with Fran in the Parish Office and she will contact the first person on the list with all the necessary information.  That person contacts the next person, and so on.  It is important that a message is not left on an answering machine.  Every person who participates is responsible for calling the next person, until contact is made.  If you would like to join the Telephone Tree, and place your name on the list, please contact Fran at the rectory at 583-4131.  Once we have a list, you will be contacted, and we will begin.  With a Mater Dolorosa Telephone Tree, we will stay informed, and support one another during times of need.

Please be sure to pick up your list and schedules after every Mass this Sunday!  We will also have the lists available for pick-up next Sunday.   Thank-you!

Hospitality Sunday is a good way to get to know all the wonderful people of Mater Dolorosa Parish.

We would like to begin Hospitality Sunday again in the fall, after the 10:00 Mass, but we need volunteers!   This service would involve setting up the pastries, juice and coffee.  The volunteers will clean up afterwards.  It will certainly be light work, if we get plenty of helpers.

Won’t you consider taking some time once a month to help out with this enjoyable event?

If interested,  please contact Fran at the rectory at 583-4131 for details.

Have Fun…….. Volunteer!
