Dear Friends,

There is not a week that doesn’t go by when someone doesn’t tell me how loud and noisy Mater Dolorosa Church is on Sunday.  I know it might come as a shock to some of you, but people actually come early to church to pray before Mass.  I am printing once again my “Ten Commandments of Spiritual Etiquette at Mass”:

         1.  Everyone should be prompt.

         2.  No one should leave until they hear the priest say:  “The Mass is ended.”

         3.  The chewing of gum is a no no.

         4.  Men and boys should remove their hats and caps before coming into

5.    All food and water should be discarded in the trash can outside, including

              baby food.

         6.  Cell phones should be turned OFF.

         7.  The manner of dress should be befitting to the presence of God.

         8.  All social conversations should be held outside of church.

9.    All Kleenex and tissues should be disposed of properly, not in the pews

      or parking lot.

10. Missals should be put back in their racks, and should never, ever, be taken

(See the seventh Commandment in the Old Testament).

Please be considerate of others when you come to Mass so that Mass can be an enjoyable experience for all.

Have a great week!

                        Father Brian

On Tuesday, August 15, 2006, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  This day is a Holy Day of Obligation.  Masses at Mater Dolorosa will be at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

We are in the process of developing our Alumni Association at Mater Dolorosa and hope to bring all students together again with their classmates and friends.  Our “Viva Las Vegas” Festival is coming up on September 29 through October 1, 2006, and we invite you to join us for a Reunion on Saturday, September 30th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Teriyaki Booth.  This fundraising event will benefit our parish community, with a large portion going towards our school and students.  We would like to count on our alumni to make a tax-deductible donation.  Your donation to Mater Dolorosa may be in the form of a check, money order, gift certificate  made payable to Mater Dolorosa, or sponsorship to our booths for the Festival.  Please send any donations to:  Mater Dolorosa Alumni Festival Committee, 307 Willow Ave., S.S.F., CA  94080.  You will be publicly acknowledged throughout our school and parish community, and your generosity  will enable us to purchase computers, physical education equipment, and make much needed repairs.  If you have any questions or know of any friends or businesses that would like to lend support, please contact Angela Rodriquez at
