Dear
Friends,
I got back
to the parish after a few days
off, and saw that our back wall
had been tagged with graffiti
while I had been gone. It
literally sickened me. As hard as
many people have worked to make
Mater Dolorosa a beautiful and
more welcoming place, a few
people have tried to make it ugly
with their calling
card. The South City Police
have told me that the taggers
were from San Francisco, and are
trying to get some gang members
from the apartments across the
street to move. I guess there
will always be people who want to
turn something beautiful into
ugliness. What a
shame!
Come
September 1st, we will be getting
a seminarian for the year. His
name is Mike Quinn, and his uncle
is Father Bill Quinn, the long
time pastor of St.
Veronicas Church. Mike is
on his pastoral year (the year
between second and third
theology) and will be helping out
around the parish as well as
working at Kaiser Hospital.
Please welcome Mike as you
welcomed me.
Another new
face coming to Mater Dolorosa,
will be Deacon Alex Aragon. Alex
is the Deacon at All Souls Church
and will be splitting his time
between us and them. Alex will be
preaching at the Sunday Masses
once a month, as well as doing
R.C.I.A. and the Baptismal
Program. Again, please welcome
Alex.
School
starts on Monday. We have a new
principal, a new school
administrator, four new teachers,
but most importantly, we have a
whole new spirit. Last year
proved to be a difficult year,
but I firmly believe, with the
people we have in place, this
upcoming year will be a very good
one. Please keep the school in
your prayers.
The
festival is five weeks away.
Lets make this the best
festival ever!

Have
a great
week!

MATER
DOLOROSA
ALUMNI
We are in
the process of developing our
Alumni Association at Mater
Dolorosa and hope to bring all
students together again with
their classmates and friends. Our
Viva Las Vegas
Festival is coming up on
September 29 through October 1,
2006, and we invite you to join
us for a Reunion on Saturday,
September 30th, at 2:00 p.m. at
the Teriyaki Booth. This
fundraising event will benefit
our parish community, with a
large portion going towards our
school and students. We would
like to count on our alumni to
make a tax-deductible donation.
Your donation to Mater Dolorosa
may be in the form of a check,
money order, gift certificate
made payable to Mater Dolorosa,
or sponsorship to our booths for
the Festival. Please send any
donations to: Mater Dolorosa
Alumni Festival Committee, 307
Willow Ave., S.S.F., CA 94080.
You will be publicly acknowledged
throughout our school and parish
community, and your generosity
will enable us to purchase
computers, physical education
equipment, and make much needed
repairs. If you have any
questions or know of any friends
or businesses that would like to
lend support, please contact
Angela Rodriquez at
lalassf@gene.com.
