Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 15, 2006 - Bulletin

“Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!”

Psalm 90

Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions.

First Reading:
Wisdom 7:7-11 I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. All good things together came to me in her company”.

Second Reading: Hebrews 4:12-13 Indeed the word of God is living and effective.

Gospel: Mark 10:17-30 [17-27] It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

We pray for all the sick in our parish, especially: Maureen Dan, Dalton Delahoussaye, Jack Devine, Florence Farrow, Lory Manzano, and Frances Wood.

May God bless them, and their families.

A few notes I think you will find of interest:

1). One of our largest attended Masses continues to be the 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening Mass. Yet almost every Sunday it has the lowest collection. Last Sunday, we colleted $510.00 from the 5 o’clock crowd. Without this Mass, we collected a grand total of $5500.00 from the other four Masses combined. The 5 o’clock crowd contributed less than 10% to the total collection. On top of that, only ten people at the 5 o’clock Mass are using their envelopes. Come on, people! You can do much better than that! A big thanks to all who give, and some of you who give very generously, Sunday after Sunday.

2). My All Souls letter and envelopes will be sent out in the mail this week. Please be on the lookout for it.

3). The Sang Tinig Choir, composed of members from all over the Bay Area, will have a concert here in the church on Saturday, November 11th, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be on sale after all the Masses today. Tickets cost $10.00 each, and all money raised will go to benefit the school. Our Children’s Choir who sing at the 10 o’clock Mass, will also be a part of the concert. For tickets and concert information, please contact Blessy at 650-652-1500. I hope we can get a full house for this concert.

4) Please remember to keep Father Caverte in your prayers. This has been a tough time for him, for all involved, as well as for our parish. I am reminded of these words from the Book of Job which puts things in perspective for me:

“Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb,
and naked I shall go back again.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord!
we accept good things from God
and should we not accept evil?”

Have a great week! Go A’s!

Father Brian
