Dear Friends,

I know it’s hard to believe, but I made a big mistake in last Sunday’s bulletin. I would like to thank Violeta Rapues for not only buying the poinsettias and miniature trees that graced our altar during the Christmas season, but also setting them up and taking care of them as well. Thank you, Violeta, from a grateful pastor and parishioners.

A big thank you to the following people who brought the following Nativity Sculptures for our Crib Scene next Christmas: 1) Rosaia family, in honor of Pat and Kathleen Dunleavy: King Frankencence; 2) Anonymous donor in memory of Mrs. Bernadette Thompson: King Myrrh; 3) Dina Grivas in memory of Guina Tablante: Sheep Right; 4) George and Pat Garibaldi in memory of their parents: Kneeling King; and 5) Father Brian in memory of his parents, Jim and Eileen Costello: Shepherd with Dog.

We still have these Nativity Sculptures left in case you want to purchase one for the Church: Camel, Cow, Donkey, Kneeling Shepherd, Shepherd with Sheep, and Sheep Left. If interested in buying one of these pieces, please call Fran in the rectory office. I can’t wait to see all these pieces on our altar next Christmas!

Have a great week!

Father Brian

Leadership Team Meeting
Thursday, January 18th—7:30 p.m.

Join us for a meeting regarding the Mystical Humanity of Christ Retreat which will be held here at Mater Dolorosa Church on March 31st from 9:00a.m. to 3:30p.m. The meeting will help to plan the events and the lunch for the retreat.

Please volunteer to help out!
First Friday All Day Eucharistic Adoration at Mater Dolorosa

Please take some time out of your busy schedule for time spent in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on the First Friday of every month. You can sign up for as little as a half-hour, or as long as you like. This is an opportunity to spend some time in the Holy Presence of Jesus Christ. All day adoration is followed by Benediction at 7:30 p.m. You can make your commitment by signing up any time during the day in the vestibule of the church.

Please give it some thought

Due to recent changes in the tax laws, beginning with contributions made in 2007, parishioners who itemize deductions on their tax returns will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish (or any other non-profit or charity) unless they maintain a bank record or written contribution statement from the parish or other charity. If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions to the parish, please use a check or maintain a copy of a statement showing a direct deposit taken from your account and provided to the parish. You can also use our parish envelopes. The parish will track contributions made using those envelopes and will, upon request, product a written statement of contributions made during a given tax year. Canceled checks and other bank records are also sufficient documentation.

The parish cannot track cash contributions not made via our envelopes.

Your Generous Contribution Dollars at Work at Mater Dolorosa.

In upcoming bulletins, we want to thank and update the generous members of the Mater Dolorosa family as to the parish and school improvements made possible by your donations. The following is a partial list of the many improvements made in 2006:

  • New paint for school entranceway and hallway.
  • Added five new electrical circuits to unsafe electrical panel in rectory.
  • New computer, printer, and software for rectory office.
  • Replaced old telephone system in rectory.
  • Repaired overflowing downspouts in school and repaired Kindergarden and sixth grade classroom water damage
  • Removed seven large pine trees from church and school property.
  • Replaced burnt out parking lot lights.
More to come in future bulletins. . . . . . .
