ONE
DAY LENTEN RETREAT
Spend the day with Jesus and His
Mother. All parishioners are invited and
encouraged to attend a special one-day
retreat, 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Saturday,
March 31, 2007 in the Parish Hall. The
theme of the retreat is The
Eucharistic Faith of Mary and the Mystical
Humanity of Christ.
Our Parish retreat leader, Michael
McDevitt, recently led the San Francisco
Archdiocesan retreat for over 500 people.
This promises to be a very prayerful event
for our Parish. Participants will receive
a customized booklet of reflections. A
light lunch will be provided. For
reservations, call the rectory at
583-4131. The fee is a voluntary
donation.
MARK YOUR
CALENDARS!
|
Dear Friends,
This week marks the
beginning of the
Archbishops Annual Appeal
2007 (AAA). Our parish
assessment is $43,500. All money
donated in excess of this
assessment will be returned to
the parish to meet our needs.
Some ways we might use those
funds are:
1) repairing our
Kindergarten Classroom;
2) installing a new floor
for the Church Hall; 3)
erecting a new Church Sign at the
corner of Miller and Willow.
During this past year, we have
listed many of the improvements
done around here because of your
generosity. Last year our
assessment was $29.500. The good
people of Mater Dolorosa
contributed over $85,000.
This past week, all
registered parishioners received
a letter from me along with a
brochure that explains the
programs and services funded by
the Annual Appeal. If you look
closely at the pictures in the
brochure, you will see our very
own Father Padazinski at work in
the Marriage Tribunal Office.
This past year, I used the
Tribunal at least a half dozen
times in order to straighten out
peoples marriages. The
Tribunal is directly funded by
the AAA.
On Sunday, February 11th, I
will give my annual talk on the
Appeal. The following Sunday,
February 18th, I will conduct an
in-pew opportunity to complete
those forms. Through the Appeal,
we join with other parishes in
the greater Archdiocese in
ministering to youth, seniors,
families, the sick, and
disadvantaged. The Appeal also
helps to train priests, such as
our own Mike Quinn, deacons, such
as Alex Aragon, and our retired
priests, such as Father
ODonnell. The Annual
Appeal also helps the Archbishop
provide seminary tuition
assistance, hospital chaplains,
and Archdiocesan services and
ministries that benefit every
parish and mission.
If you gave to the Appeal
last year, I ask you to please
give again. If you did not give,
please consider doing so this
year. Remember: no amount you
give is too small. Thank you for
all you do, and continue to do,
to help make Mater Dolorosa the
best parish in the Archdiocese.

Have
a great
week!
