Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
Third Sunday of Lent
March 11, 2007 - Bulletin

The Lord is kind and merciful.

Psalm 103

The bush that burned but was not consumed, shows us that God is an inexhaustible mystery.

First Reading:
Exodus 3:1-8a 13-15 “I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt and have come to rescue them.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12 Those who think they are standing secure should take care not to fall.

Gospel: Luke 13:1-9 I shall cultivate the ground around the fig tree and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future.

We pray for all the sick in our parish, especially: Maureen Dan, Jack Devine, Florence Farrow, Jovita Guajardo, Joe Hanna, Lory Manzano, and Luz P. Valdez. May God bless them and their families.

Peace and Universal Love is the essence of the Gospel preached by all the Enlightened Ones. The Lord has preached that equanimity is the Dharma. Forgive do I creatures all, and let all creatures forgive me. Unto all have I amity, and unto none enmity. Know that violence is the root cause of all miseries in the world. Violence, in fact, is the knot of bondage. “Do not injure any living being.” This is the eternal, perennial, and unalterable way of spiritual life. A weapon howsoever powerful it may be, can always be superseded by a superior one; but no weapon can, however, be superior to nonviolence and love.

Dear Friends,

To date, we are up to $47,227 pledged for the Annual Appeal and we have collected $32,777 of that amount. Again, I can’t thank you enough for your generous response to this year’s Appeal. When I meet my priest friends from other parishes, I always tell them how good and generous Mater Dolorosa is. If you haven’t given yet, please fill out an Appeal envelope in the vestibule of the Church. Whatever you give stays here at Mater Dolorosa for our own needs. Thank you all to the greatest parishioners a pastor could ever wish for.

Please remember these two dates and mark them down on your calendars: 1) Saturday, March 17th, our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner in the Hall at 6:00 p.m. and, 2) Saturday, March 31st, our one day Parish Retreat from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Hall. I hope you can come to either or both events.

Have a great third week of Lent!

Father Brian

A One-Day Parish Retreat and Gathering. All parishioners are invited and encouraged to attend a special one-day retreat, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2007 in the Parish Hall. The theme of the retreat is “The Mystical Humanity of Christ and the Eucharistic Faith of Mary .” This promises to be a very prayerful event for our Parish. Participants will receive a customized booklet of reflections. A light lunch will be provided. For reservations, call the rectory at 583-4131. The fee is a voluntary donation.

Prepare for Easter and experience spiritual healing.

The Sisters of Nazareth House announce a Vocation Retreat Day for Young Women on Sunday, March 18th. The retreat will be held at Nazareth House, 245 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael, CA 94903

Remember, on St. Patrick’s Day EVERYONE IS IRISH . What better way to join in the fun than a traditional dinner. The great cooks of our parish will be serving salad, corned beef and cabbage, and dessert after the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, March 17th. The cost for dinner is $15.00 per person. We plan to have a little entertainment to go along with the dinner. Please call in your reservations to Kathy Dunleavy at 589-8233. See you there!
