May God bless them and keep them in His care.

If you were the lucky winner of two tickets to a 49er’s football game, that were awarded at the St. Patrick’s Dinner, please contact Barbara Reid at 952-4832 to claim your prize! Thank you.

Today we celebrate the great fiery feast of Pentecost.

On this day, nearly two thousand years ago, the apostles were inflamed by the Holy Spirit, and their great zeal was mistaken for an overindulgence in other spirits.

As we celebrate the end of our Easter season, I pray that Your Sacred Spirit be sent forth among the parishioners of Mater Dolorosa Church so that they might be filled to overflowing with Your joy and healing. May this sign of Your delightful Presence bring our parish closer together and transform the estranged into friends.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Father Brian

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A Young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.

I looked a him in uniform.
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert,
He’d stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him,
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mother’s tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom is not free.

I heard the sound of taps one night,
When everything was still.
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant “Amen”,
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea,
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom is not free.

On Saturday, June 9th we will celebrate at the 5:00 p.m. Mass, the retirement of Father Rolando Caverte from Mater Dolorosa. We will also celebrate Ms. Margarita Lee, Sister Bernard Joseph and Mr. Jose Acosta’s moving on to minister/teach at other parish schools. We will be honoring these four people at this celebration. Please join us in celebrating their years of service at the 5:00 Mass, which will be followed by a buffet dinner in the Parish Hall. Please plan to attend!

Congratulations to Rommel & Ruby Castelo who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on May 17, 2007. Part of their celebration was Mass in the convent chapel on that day.

We wish them many blessings, and continued happiness in their marriage!
