Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
Second Sunday of Advent
December 9, 2007 - Bulletin

Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

Psalm 72

John the Baptist invites us to prepare the way for the Lord, in whom we place our hope.

First Reading: Isaiah 11:1-10 He shall bring justice for the afflicted; the earth shall overflow with the knowledge of the Lord.

Second Reading: Romans 15:4-9 Glorify God by living in harmony with one another, welcoming each other as Christ welcomed you.

Gospel: Matthew 3:1-12 Produce good fruit worthy of your baptism; repent, for the reign of God is near.

We pray for the happy repose of the souls of John Duran and Juliana Moscardon who died last week. May perpetual light shine upon them. All blessings and prayers for their families during this difficult time.

This Wednesday, December 12th at 7:30 p.m., Father Bill Nicholas will be speaking in the Church on “The Infancy Gospels, Part II”. Please plan to attend this interesting talk as a part of your Advent!

On Thanksgiving, I made the big announcement about the Archdiocese wanting to open our school again as a pre-school, (ages 3 to 4) for Northern San Mateo County. This will take place in August 2008. Needless to say, I am overjoyed! God is indeed good!!

Have a great week!

Father Brian

Father, I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and those that I care deeply for. Show them a new revelation of our love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them your peace and mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through your grace. Where there is need, I ask you to fulfill their needs. Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their comings.

In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.

Our Christmas Giving Tree is up in the vestibule of the church through December 23rd. We would like you to purchase Target gift cards, rather than gifts for the needy families in our parish community. Please pick an “ornament” tag that indicates purchasing a $10.00 Target gift card. You may bring them to the rectory or drop them off in the Sunday collection basket. The members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul thank you for your generosity and support!

We are very pleased to let you know that after submitting a 2007 Grant Request Application to the GELLERT FOUNDATION, they have generously awarded Mater Dolorosa with a grant in the amount of $15,000. We are very grateful to this Foundation for their gift towards the replacement our parish floor. The break-down of the cost for the parish hall floor and kitchen floor is as follows:

Asbestos Removal $ 9,588
Plumbing Removal $ 4,800
Flooring $24,050
Total $38,438

With the $15,000 grant, that leaves $23,438 remaining, that we will be paying over several months. Thank you to those who have contributed to the Parish Improvement Fund. We ask that you continue to support this worthy project. The floor looks great!

Thank you Gellert Foundation!

Thank you Mater Dolorosa Parishioners!
