Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
January 20, 2008 - Bulletin

Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

Psalm 40

Jesus Christ, as servant, will be the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy and the basis of the new.

First Reading: Isaiah 49:3,5-6 The glory of the Lord shows through Israel, a light to all nations, that salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1-3 All those who call upon the name of the Lord are called to be holy.

Gospel: John 1:29-34 John the Baptist testifies: The one who comes after me, on whom the Spirit comes down and remains, is the Son of God.

Today’s responsorial psalm is the theme song of the good steward: “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.” May I, too, stand ready to offer myself and my gifts in the service of God.

Something New at Mater Dolorosa

Those of you who are registered parishioners and are receiving contribution envelopes may notice a new envelope in your packets for “Helping Hands”. Beginning this year, we will have a fund to support the use of our parish hall for those who would like to use it following a funeral or a very special occasion. In some instances, our Helping Hands team will provide a light buffet meal if desired. Those eligible for this church-provided service must be registered in the parish, attending Mass with some regularity, and using their contribution envelopes towards the support of their parish.
