Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
First Sunday of Lent
February 10th, 2008 - Bulletin

Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.

Psalm 51

“The Lord, your God shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.”

Matthew 4:10

First Reading: Genesis 2:7-9; 3:1-7 The man and the woman ate the fruit of the one tree that God had told them to avoid, and their shame overtook them.

Second Reading: Romans 5:12-19 [12, 17-19] Death reigned from Adam to Moses, but now grace and life abound in Christ Jesus.

Gospel: Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit and there he fasted for forty days and forty nights.

What temptations lure us from the path of discipleship? Possessions? Pride? Power? Oh Lord, create for us a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us!

COLLECTION TOTALS - February 3, 2008

First Collection Total $4,464.43
Second Collection Total
$1,631.00 (CCD Program)

Our Second Collection this Sunday is for our Parish Improvement Fund.

Our Second Collection next Sunday is for our Helping Hands Fund.

Thank you for your continued support!

Please keep all those who are sick in our parish family in your prayers, especially:

Kayla Arangcon, Wallace Cain, Jack Devine , Dawn Hassinger, and Lory Manzano.

May God bless them and their families.

In two weeks time, I will begin the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal (AAA) for 2008. Mater Dolorosa’s assessment is $42,600. All money donated in excess of this assessment will be returned to us to meet our needs. Some ways we might use those funds are helping to repair our stained glass windows, a new kitchen counter top and cupboards for the parish hall, and a new sign for the front of the church.

This week, all registered parishioners will receive a letter from me and a brochure that explains the programs and services funded by the Annual Appeal. Through the Appeal, we join with other parishes and the Archbishop in ministering to youth, seniors, families, the sick, and disadvantaged. We help train priests and deacons and we care for our retired priests. The Annual Appeal also helps the Archbishop provide seminary tuition assistance, hospital chaplains, and Archdiocesan services and ministries that benefit every parish and mission.

I hope all of you can give something, anything, to the Annual Appeal.

Have a great week!

Father Brian
