Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
Third Sunday of Lent
February 24th, 2008 - Bulletin

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Psalm 95

THEME OF OUR LITURGY -
Lent calls upon us to dwell on how each of us is thirsting for Christ, and it leads us, ultimately, back to the life giving waters of our baptism in His Body.

First Reading: Exodus 17:3-7 When the people grumbled to Moses for water in the desert, the Lord heard and brought forth water from the rock for all to drink.

Second Reading: Romans 5:1-2, 5-8 God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

Gospel: John 4:5-42 [5-15, 19b-26, 39a, 40-42] Ask, and you will be given living water so that you will never thirst again.

When Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for a drink of water, He opened the door for a life changing relationship with Him. Scripture says her testimony drew many others to Him as well. We, too, must be ready to respond whenever and wherever the Lord speaks to us and be prepared for it to change our lives!

Fasting and Feasting

Lent should be more than a time for fasting . . . it should also be a season of feasting.
Fast from judging others . . . feast on the Christ within them.
Fast from apparent darkness . . . feast on the reality of light.
Fast from thoughts of illness . . . feast on the healing power of God.
Fast from words that pollute . . . feast on phrases that purify.
Fast from discontent . . . feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger. . . feast on patience.
Fast from pessimism . . . feast on optimism.
Fast from worry . . . feast on divine-order. Trust in God.
Fast from complaining . . . feast on appreciation.
Fast from negatives . . . feast on affirmatives.
Fast from facts that depress . . . feast on truths that uplift.
Fast from bitterness . . . feast on forgiveness.
Fast from discouragement . . . feast on hope.
Fast from self-concern . . . feast on compassion for others.
Fast from suspicion . . . feast on truth.
Fast from shadows of sorrow . . . feast on the sunlight of serenity.
Fast from idle gossip . . . feast on purposeful silence.

Pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes with Barcelona Talk in Hall Sunday, March 9th, after the 12 Noon Mass. The Pilgrimage dates are September 8th through the 16th, 2008.

A special thank you to Mr. & Mrs. A. Rapues for their large donation towards the purchase of round tables for our parish events. We plan to purchase ten round tables for special dinners, meetings, retreats and parties. The tables will seat 10 comfortably, so we can accommodate 100 people. Our second collection for SPECIAL PROJECTS, during the year, will go towards the purchase of 147 chairs to match the chairs that we already have. We now have 128 chairs, and we should have 275 for the choir and for large parish events. Please consider donating to the Special Projects Fund for the purchase of chairs and tables. Thank-you!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT MATER DOLOROSA

March 7, April 4, May 2, & June 6

Please sign up for Eucharistic Adoration the first Friday of each month. It is a wonderful experience to spend some peaceful time in the Holy Presence of Jesus. We are sad to say that we have not had enough interest in this blessed opportunity, and we need people to make a commitment for a small amount of time per month(30 minutes, an hour, or more). Please consider

spending some time in prayerful reflection with Our Lord. You will find the sign up sheets in the vestibule of the Church. Let’s make this a big success for Mater Dolorosa, as well as our own spiritual lives.
