Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church
2nd Sunday of Easter
(Divine Mercy Sunday)

March 30th, 2008 - Bulletin

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting.

Psalm 118

Even though we have not seen Christ, we nonetheless are filled with joy as we place our belief in his saving death and resurrection.

First Reading: Acts 2:42-47

All who believed were devoted to the teachings of the apostles, the communal life, the breaking of the bread, and prayer.

Second Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-9
God has given us an undiminished inheritance, safeguarded for us in heaven.

Gospel: John 20:19-31
The risen Christ comes to his disciples with peace and the Spirit. The absent Thomas doubts.

April 4, 2008

Please sign up for Eucharistic Adoration the first Friday of each month. It is a wonderful experience to spend some peaceful time in the Holy Presence of Jesus in prayerful reflection. You will find the sign up sheets in the vestibule of the Church. Let’s make this a big success for Mater Dolorosa, as well as our own spiritual lives.

COLLECTION TOTALS - March 23, 2008

Easter Collection Total - $15,335.00

Our Second Collection this Sunday is for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Our Second Collection next week is for our CCD Program.

Thank you for your generous support!

We pray for the happy repose of the soul of
Paul Martino
who died on March 13th.

May God Bless his family and friends.

Please keep all those who are sick in our parish family in your prayers, especially:

Matilde Agasid, Kayla Arangcon, Wallace Cain, Jack Devine , Dawn Hassinger, Lory Manzano , Steve Medina and Olga Montoya.

Our prayers are with them.

Dear Friends,

I received the following note in the Easter Collection: “During Lent I did extra things around the house to earn money for the Easter Collection—Ainsley” Thank you, Ainsley, for your most generous $10.00 donation. As I keep telling my parishioners, it’s not so important how much you give, what is important is that you give your best to God. The parishioners of Mater Dolorosa have given your best and I can’t thank you enough. I wish I had more Ainsley’s here at Mater Dolorosa.

Last Sunday, we had our first Salubong Mass in Tagalog, thanks to Father Alex Pablo. We also had our first Easter Egg Drawing after the 10:00 Mass, even though the Grand Prize Winners failed to tell me who they were or what prizes they won. All in all, Easter was great. Thank you, one and all, for making it so special!

Coming Saturday, May 3rd: Late Nite Catechism here at Mater Dolorosa Church. Tickets are $35.00 in advance and $45.00 at the door. This should be one of the big fund raising events around here this year. Please mark your calendars now. I hope we get a full house.

Happy Easter!
Father Brian

2008 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Update at Mater Dolorosa

Once again, the generous parishioners of Mater Dolorosa responded to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal and we have surpassed our assessment in pledges. Not only have we met our goal, but anything collected over $42,600 will be returned to Mater Dolorosa Church for our parish use. If you have not yet made your pledge, you may drop it off at the rectory or place it in the collection on Sundays. Those of you who have made pledges, the Archdiocese of San Francisco will be sending you a monthly statement in order to fulfill your commitment by December. Thank you all who participated with large or small amounts, to make this such a success at Mater Dolorosa! We should be proud of ourselves as a community to respond so generously to this worthy cause.
$ 40,116.00
$ 62,481.00

You may have noticed a bit of “sprucing up” around Mater Dolorosa lately. Thanks to donations made to our Parish Improvement Fund and our Special Projects Fund, we were able to make the following improvements:

  • 10 New Round Tables for Parish Events—$3,353.45
  • Bird Tracking Installed on the Roof (to discourage seagulls from roosting) - $2,325.00

Some upcoming projects we have discussed with the Finance Committee and the Parish Council are:

  • Refinishing Parish Kitchen cabinets and replacing counter tops
  • Sound System for Parish Events
  • Stained Glass Repair
  • Replace Folding Doors in the back of the church
  • New Parish Sign
  • New Fencing around the property

Your suggestions are always welcome. Call the Rectory Office with any new ideas you may have.
