Dear Family in Christ,

Thank you for your interest in our Faith Formation Program.

Parents are the most influential in shaping the spiritual life of their children. The overwhelming evidence from research studies show that the whole family plays an important role in forming the faith of children and youth. It has also shown that children’s religious practices are tied to their families’ practices. In addition, teens are most likely to engage in religious activities if attended as a family.

The Mater Dolorosa parish is committed to forming and supporting families in our Catholic faith. This September, we will implement a new catechesis model that focuses on the family.

Family centered faith formation (family catechesis) connects the liturgical celebration in the parish to family life at home. This model of catechesis supports parents in their faith while raising a family in the rich tradition of our Catholic Church. Family catechesis is an opportunity for parents and children to grow in faith together.

We look forward to engage, encourage, and equip parents and children in faith using this new model of catechesis. Our first family gathering will begin on Sunday, September 3, 2023.
